Happy Veteran’s Day! Today, we celebrate the service of all U.S. Military Veterans that have served our country during war &/or peacetime. The heroic men and women who have and continue to serve and protect the U.S. come from all walks of life. They are our friends, neighbors, coworkers and an important part of their communities. But more importantly, they are parents, children, brothers, sisters and grandparents. I have witnessed the sacrifices these soldiers make, firsthand, and although I try my hardest to make a difference in this world, my efforts could never amount to the sacrifices these men and women make for us.

Let me first tell you thanks for being on my A-team. Like I always say, I honestly couldn’t do this without the support of my family / friends and customers. You all are who drive me to keep going and persevere to be a better person each and every day.

Backstory: I grew up having two older siblings in the military. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until my brothers 3rd deployment overseas that I could entirely appreciate the sacrifices that our United States Armed Forces make on an everyday basis to help keep America safe. I’ve said this time and time before and I stand by it, unless you are directly related to a member of the US Military, the average American is not aware of the living conditions or sacrifices that our Military Men and Women make on a day-to-day basis; and that’s why I’m here.

So what am I going to do about it? Starting Wednesday, November 11th through December 18th, my plan is to raise awareness and funds to send supplies and necessities to our hardworking troops overseas. I’m donating 20% of profits on every single order made on RadMaverixBrand.com from 11/11 – 12/18 to purchase supplies and necessities for our troops. Care packages will then be put together and sent out the first week of January.

I’m going to be real honest with you; I have about 30,000 emotions running through my bones right now. This is so important to me and I want nothing but for it to be a success. I want to show people that it’s okay to step outside of comfort zones and that it’s okay to fail, as long as you get back up and try again. I made an oath this year to live a more meaningful life and this is my first big leap.

I’m counting on you guys. While shopping for Christmas gifts this holiday season, I ask that you take a look around the Rad Maverix Brand site and other small or local businesses before shopping at big box stores. Not only are you supporting your local economy but the chances of your hard-earned cash going to a good cause are a lot higher. According to Metro Family Magazine, $73 of every $100 spent at locally owned businesses remains in the local economy as opposed to just $43 of every $100 spent at non-locally owned stores. Finally, a recent study from the University of Central Oklahoma confirms that small business owners are exceedingly generous. Nonprofits received 250% more funding from small businesses than they do from large ones. I may be a small business but I have faith that I can make a big impact.

Want to make a difference? If you would ever feel so inclined to share the Rad Warriors Support mission I would be forever grateful. Tag #radmaverix so I can see the posts and tell you thank you! If you are or know a small business that would like to join efforts with Rad Maverix Brand please shoot me an email at hello@radmaverixbrand.com or send a smoke signal, I’m pretty good at deciphering those. If you have thoughts on how to make the Rad Warriors Support Mission shine even brighter please don’t hesitate to reach out, we're all in this together.

In a world that is all too often full of negativity and darkness we need more leaders of kindness; and I plan to take the lead. Let’s make a difference. Let’s do this together.

I (still) Proudly Love America

It’s a gloomy day in America, as we remember those who lost their lives to the devastating terrorist attacks in 2001. It feels like just yesterday, I was sitting in my mom’s bedroom, watching the attack play out right in front of my eyes. At that moment, I couldn’t even begin to fathom what was actually happening or the effect it would have on the American people, as well as the rest of the World, as a whole.

Since that day, I’ve had a different outlook on life and what it meant to live in America. As both of my older siblings joined the Military to fight for our freedom, I quickly realized freedom isn’t free. Through all of the wars and distress that America has faced, there are still a plethora of reasons to love this remarkable nation.

One | Land of Opportunity America is the land where dreams, ambitions and hopes turn into reality. There are very few other places in the world where a young man or woman can start out as a low-class citizen and become a prominent figure in his/her country. America gives everyone the opportunity to excel in every phase of life and all Americans have the right to education.

Two | The Welfare of Others Americans, in general, are concerned about the welfare of our neighbors. The Salvation Army, Red Cross and United Way are just a few of the organizations that are prepared and willing to help any American in need.

Three | Home of the Brave I can’t help but think of my brother when I think about those who have sacrificed their lives and time with their families to fight for our country. It’s because of them that I am even able to write why I love America.

“Freedom is not free, everyday soldiers give their lives so that we can live ours.”

Four | Entrepreneurial Spirit America is full of creative entrepreneurs who aren’t afraid to take big risks. According to Babson and Baruch Colleges, in 2012, the percentage of Americans involved in a startup hit a high of 13%. That is more than 40 million people who started businesses to pursue opportunity. Even after the global financial meltdown, there’s still tremendous opportunity, freedom and creative potential in starting a business that can’t be found any other way–and the U.S. is still a great place to do it.

  4. Oprah Winfrey, Oprah Winfrey Network

Five | Freedom Like I previously stated, I am able to write a blog and say whatever I want about who I am and what I believe in. I am able to get a job regardless of whether or not I come from the highest social class, my gender or the color of my skin. I can marry who I want, attend the church and/or college I want. I am able to be who I want without the fear of being persecuted by the government.

Six | Support Tragedies like 9/11 remind me how people who were once divided by different ideas and beliefs are able to lay them to the side and stand together as one nation.

Seven | Beauty As much as I want to (and plan to) travel the world, there is so much to see here in the USA. We are lucky enough to have every natural element inside our borders: mountains, plains, deserts, rain forests, coast lines, volcanoes, etc. The people in America are also beautiful, we all come from diverse backgrounds and have something different to offer.

Eight | Lend A Helping Hand When there is devastation in the world, Americans are always among the first to assist. We may disagree about our politics, but when there is trouble, Americans come together. We currently provide humanitarian support and also lend troops in times of military conflict.

Nine | Patriotism We love our country.
