Review: Benefit Boi-ing Brightening Concealer

I’m such a creature habit when it comes to makeup that sometimes it doesn’t occur to me that there are better products out there that might do a better job! With that being said, I have been using Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Eraser for under-eye coverage for many many years. You might remember seeing it from the “What’s in my makeup bag” post a couple years back. It has always done such a great job concealing but no matter how much I would try to blend, it always made my eyes look like coon eyes...So instead of dark puffy eyes in photos they would look like bright white puffy eyes.

I stopped into Ulta to see what the latest and greatest product was with the plan to try Tarte's Tape Shape. There are so many rants and raves about Tarte's *holy grail* concealer- it sounded like something I needed to get my grubby little paws on, ASAP. I’m sure, looking a bit lost, one of the Ulta artists asked if I needed assistance...explained to her what I was looking for and she asked if she could test out a couple of swatches with Tarte and Benefit. Welp- about 45 minutes later I ended up walking out with Benefit's Boi-ing Brightening Concealer.

REVIEW + My thoughts

The product comes in a small pink + silver pot. Cute? Yes. But ideal for a self-proclaimed amateur makeup applicator? No. So I picked up Ecotools version of the beauty blender to help with application. On occasion, I have also applied this concealer by “dipping” my ring finger into the pot to grab a bit of product and then rubbing with the other ring finger in a circular motion to sort of “warm up” the product. Doing this allows for a gentler application!

It is very thick and creamy- something that was different from the Maybelline product I had been used too. This was actually one of the selling points because according to the Ulta artist, my under-eye area is very dry. So! It can be moisturizing for dryer under-eye areas if you have that problem too.

The flip side of it being very thick and creamy. I didn’t like how it laid on my skin/pores when I brought it down in a V-shape to the apples of my cheeks. It made my pores to appear larger and that I had gobs of foundation on (I don’t wear a foundation). I did notice it blended better when I applied a primer, but that is not something I wear on a daily basis.

I've been using the concealer for a couple of months and overall I think its one of the better ones I've tried for the price point. Have you tried this product? What’s your go-to under eye treatment?

3 Things I Do Every Single Night

Let's talk nighttime routines.

I like to call mine a ritual because it's the only guaranteed time of day when I get to decompress and be by myself, with myself. Read that again.


By myself, with myself.


Ah, alone time- the most undervalued relationship in America. Date yourself, even if it's only 20 minutes alone in the bathroom each night. Take time to admire yourself, your accomplishments, your feats, your failures, your flaws. What makes you so perfectly imperfectly you.


Take care of yourself, for yourself.


Honestly, its probably one of my favorite times of the day; washing my face each night is like washing the day away and preparing for a fresh + new day. New opportunities, new adventures, new inappropriate memes to laugh at, etc.

Okay, just to get it out of the way, these 3 things I’m talking about are on top of my nightly ritual (wash face, tone, night creams, brush teeth, etc). Let's call these 'extra curricular' activities, shall we?

Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize.

Wow — revolutionary. Besides my face, I always make sure to cover my hands + décolleté. Soo basic huh? I like to apply excess under-eye cream to the tops of my hands- It sounds weird, I know. I rationalize this by saying...if the under eye cream is good for preventing / reducing wrinkles under my eyes, then why not the tops of my hands?!

My mom always told me, the 2 quickest ways to tell a woman's age is by their décolleté and the backs of their hands. These two areas are typically neglected and oftentimes where you will find sun spots and signs of premature aging. Plus, gotta help reduce those damn cleavage wrinkles in the a.m.. Anyone else a side sleeper?

One thing I always notice myself looking at when meeting people for the first time is their skin. I think because my skin complexion has always been one of my biggest insecurities + problem areas- so I always admire other's who have capital P-perfect skin texture.

Cuticle-y Concerned.

Continuing with the hand area, I keep a bottle of cuticle oil on my nightstand and I apply each night. I have always had super dry, flaky and sometimes painful cuticles. You know, those hangnails that bleed and seriously ache like you smashed a finger. Since using cuticle oil on a regular basis, the overall health of my nails + cuticles have improved tenfold.

I'm not sure how I lived most of my life without this stuff. I also keep this on my nightstand and take a few each night before bed. It's kind of hard to explain how it makes you feel, the only word I can find at the moment is "relaxed". Meh. It's like the natural version of a muscle relaxer without the addictive qualities. AND it has a lot of great benefits; to name a few:

  • Aids in bone and heart health

  • Helps keep your digestive tract "regular"

  • Premenstrual side affects like bloating, breast soreness and insomnia

Maverix Muse 002 — Things I’m Loving Lately

Hi — Happy almost September! Where the heck has this year gone? Feels like just yesterday I was hungover from NYE festivities. #kiddingaround 

Anyways — we are heading down to the lake this weekend but wanted to share with you things I'm really loving lately. This could be anything from hair/face products, experiences, white trash TV, sweet treats &/or all of the above. So I pretty much recapped the entire blog post in one sentence, keep reading if you're still interested. LOL

01 This Patriotic Sweet Treat — I'm a fool for anything sweet; especially fruit tarts with a dollop of homemade vanilla ice cream on top. The ingredient list isn't a mile long either so I'm going to give it a try. Any one else decide on whether or not you're going to try a recipe based on the amount of ingredients listed and whether or not a grocery store trip is required?

Speaking of sweet treats! I was craving chocolate cake the other night but only wanted to bake up a single serving. I found a really good recipe but revised it a bit:

Mix WELL in a small bowl:

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 1 tbsp whole milk or almond milk

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

  • Tiny pinch of salt

  • Optional: sprinkle of powdered sugar, vanilla ice cream


Make sure you mix REALLY well, the egg should be blended so well that its not stringy.

Add batter to a large coffee mug that has been sprayed (well) with PAM or greased with real butter.

Microwave for 1 min 30 sec (will depend on the power of your microwave but this is what worked for me -- the top should not be wet to the touch)

Flip coffee mug over on small plate, sprinkle with powdered sugar, even add a scoop of ice cream!

02 Group Fitness Classes — Last month Katelyn, owner of Sparrow Fitness LLC, started hosting workout classes in Downtown Coffeyville and let me tell you, I'm digging it. I even convinced a couple friends to join in on the torturefun so the accountability has really helped me ditch the snooze button. 03 The Hills: New Beginnings — In case you haven't heard, they are bringing back the cast of The Hills and filming a reunion series. I am so damn excited about this but also like what the hell, LC -- you're too busy to join the cast this go around?! We miss you and your low-drama attitude! Lauren was my absolute favorite, which is kind of funny because she was JF's favorite too (apparently we have the same taste in women). It's also funny because I don't watch a whole lot of television and I keep teasing JF that I'm going to cancel our Dish Network contract because I never even get the remote 😉 But The Hill's - this is something we can both get on board with.

04 Tea Tree Oil — THIS STUFF IS LIFE CHANGING.

I know, it sounds crazy... why add more oil to an already oil-prone complexion? 🤷🏼‍♀️ This 100% pure tea tree oil has improved my skin tone so much! I have been extremely stressed the last month and the first place you can tell if I'm stressed--is my face. Which causes me more freaking stress because my face is broke out! It's finally calming down and getting back to "normal".

I apply this tea tree oil all over my face and down to my decollete, after I wash/tone and before I apply my morning or nighttime moisturizer. If you've never used a tea tree oil just be prepared for the overwhelmingly stout smell. IT IS STRONG. If you have sensitive skin, I would recommend testing a small patch before applying to your entire face. Or even just use it as an all natural spot / blemish treatment.

Tea tree oil has many benefits!

  • contains healing properties for sores, scrapes + scratches, stings + bites

  • diffuse or dilute with water to freshen linens/towels

  • help fight dry scalp or dandruff

  • fights bacterial and fungal infections

  • the stout smell could also help with clearing your sinuses ;)


04 Verday Chlorophyll Water — If you're looking for a way to sneak in greens but don't like the taste of greens, this water is excellent. I could even see myself sprucing this up with a wedge of watermelon or strawberries and a shot or two of Tito's Vodka.

Local Fitness Classes (+ The Benefits)

I've gotten quite a few q's about a new group fitness class I've been attending lately so I'm going to share with you all of the details in today's post! As seen on the ‘gram, last week I started going to a fitness class in downtown Coffeyville. These classes are hosted by Katelyn Osborn, owner + founder of Sparrow Fitness LLC. Katelyn holds certificates in both Personal Training and Fitness Nutrition and is also a fitness/physique competitor. (So  basically she knows her shit.)

The classes are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:15a and go for about 45min to an hour long. The time goes by SO fast and sometimes we do a quick 8 to 10 min cardio sesh after the workout class.

The way Katelyn has the classes set up is referred to as AMRAP (as many reps as possible) so these classes are literally for any level of fitness, beginner or expert! For instance, each class will consist of warm-ups and then AMRAP style workouts. Each workout will be a specific time 'working' and a specific time 'resting' (e.g. workout for 20 sec, rest for 10 sec, workout for 20, rest for 10 - for 3 rounds). The best part about this style of working out is not feeling like a failure LOL! For instance, I might only be able to get out 10 burpees but my girlfriend might be able to push out 12! You're so focused on what you're doing that you're not noticing what the ladies around you are accomplishing. What's that old saying...'i'm too focused watering my own grass to notice if yours is greener'.

Anyways, I'm seriously digging these classes so much; I was even able to convince a couple friends to join in on the fun so the accountability has really helped me ditch the snooze button.

A few benefits I've noticed from attending these classes:

  1. Accountability. Like I mentioned above, when you have friends meeting you at the fitness class it makes it harder to skip! They have helped me stay accountable + motivated to get my ass up!

  2. I don't have to think too hard about it. I fall in and out of love with the gym all of the time. I love going to the gym because I love the way it makes me feel afterwards. I hate going to the gym because most of the time I don't know what the hell I'm doing or how I need to structure my workouts to yield the best results! With this class being led by a lady who knows what she's doing, all I have to do is show up and put in the work. I don't have to think too hard about what exercise to do next!

  3. Doing it right. Katelyn is a huge advocate of ‘form over reps’. Making sure each person is going at their own pace and that their form is on point. She often expresses that it is much more important to do 5 GOOD squats rather than 10 halfass squats. She is there to guide you through the motions, celebrating and applauding when she sees you push through a set. So essentially it's like personal training without the cost of personal training. 😉

  4. It's actually fun. Yea sometimes I'm dirty cussing my alarm clock when it goes off at 4a but when I get to the class and see my girlfriends there I get pumped + excited to conquer the class. Plus it sets the mood for the rest of my day! By the time 3p rolls around I've actually forgotten that I had woken up at the ass crack of dawn and already put in the work!

A Guide To Staying Rad During the Holidaze
Staying Rad During the Holidaze

My Christmas tree has been up for 3 weeks and I’ve been blaring Christmas music since November 1st.

You know, its kinda funny because I’m actually the type of person that waits to put their Christmas tree up last minute. But truth be told, I’m taking a different approach to the holiday season this year. Although the happiest time of the year, it is also the busiest time and I know my schedule picks up significantly after the middle of November. So putting up the Christmas tree when the time suited me was the perfect choice this year. Plus I get to enjoy the lights + cheer a bit longer than most.

(And no, it doesn't mean I'm trying to skip Thanksgiving.)

A few of my intentions this holiday season:

  • Prep + plan. No waiting until December 24th to stress out and start my Christmas shopping. As I mentioned above, I'm completing my holiday check list as time suits me. 

  • Be present in all family functions, this is an ongoing goal of mine. Put the damn phone down, chat with family + friends, get to know your family on a deeper level.

  • Give back more. A few weeks ago I did some work for one of my clients, Shelbie, owner over at ShelbieLFitness.com. She overpaid her invoice by 35% to show her gratitude for me and all I've done for her these last few months. At that moment I decided to take that extra $ and give back to a charity this holiday season. (#radgirltip: if money is a bit tight this year but you still want to give back, donate your time!)

  • Daily gratitude. Reflecting on the day I had and jotting down the small things that made me happy or grateful. (I included a 2 pg gratitude journal in the guide to staying rad during the holidaze!)

I hope to sip my coffee (+ hot cocoa!) a little slower and enjoy the smallest of joys this Christmas.

Why You Should Create a Bucket List

THE 14-DAY SPRING BUCKET LIST CHALLENGE STARTS MONDAY! HAVE YOU SIGNED UP YET?

 

One crucial ingredient to creating + maintaining the "perfect" work/life balance is making sure you're spending enough time on you. This means adding activities to your agenda that leaves you feeling inspired, relaxed, and motivated to conquer the world. So you might be asking, what's the big deal? What does a bucket list have to do with creating a bombass life? Well, whether you call it a bucket list, life list or to-do list, we all need something to keep track of activities + adventures that add value to our lives.

Your bucket list is meant to be completed on your own terms but how many times have you said, "I'll do it later"? Is it because brainstorming all of the activities you want to achieve before you die feels freakin' overwhelming and a bit gruesome? So why not take it one year or even one season at a time? Let's achieve short-term successes and gain lifetime habits. 

 

A few reasons why I love bucket lists and well…“life-lists” in general:

 

RE-ENERGIZE

Keeping + maintaining a list is the BEST way to re-energize! When the dust settles and the excitement of dreaming up your dream lifestyle wears off you’ll probably lose sight of the big picture. A bucket list is perfect to refresh our perspectives and get back on track. Not to mention, a bucket list literally lets you chart your own course in life; even when life gets busy. 

GET YOUR BOOTY IN ACTION

If you’re tired of feeling like you’re not achieving your goals w/ soul or living your 2017 intentions to the fullest it might be time to add some adventure back into your schedule. My favorite therapy is nature. Sad? Get outside. Happy? Get outside! Annoyed? Get outside! Stressed? Get outside! Nature offers one of the most reliable boosts to your mental and physical well-being and helps restore your creativity levels.

 

Get-shit-doner

Inspire + leave a badass legacy. How would you like to be remembered? Go on and think about it. Years from now when stories are being told by your descendants at the dreaded annual family reunion, what distinction(s) would you like to hold? Badassery? Want to be known as a Dreamer? A go-getter? A get-shit-doner? Or do you want to be known as someone who simply let life go by? It’s up to YOU.

 

LAW OF ATTRACTION BABY

You start the law of attraction. Can I get a HELL YEAH? By creating a bucket list and sharing it you send out #ALLTHEGOODVIBES. Be specific and communicate exactly what you want. The Law of Attraction must be accompanied by a positive attitude and a bit of discipline but things always fall into place as they’re supposed to.

 

KEEPS MY “WHAT + WHY” ON THE FOREFRONT

It helps to keep my “what” + “why” on the forefront of my mind. It is so easy to get consumed by the “how” that we often forget about the “what”. This is one of the first questions I ask my clients:

“Imagine looking into the future and living your absolute dream life. WHAT does that look like? Don’t think about HOW it’ll happen but think about WHAT it looks like. Get ridiculously clear on what your dream lifestyle looks like, down to what you’re eating, what you’re wearing, where you’re living, who your friends are and what kind of career you’re kicking ass at.

The answer to this question naturally fills in all of the blanks (your WHY’s). You’re eating healthier because you want to feel better, you landed your dream career because you knew you were meant for ridiculously BIG things, you’re wearing yoga pants because you’re the BOSS and YOU make the rules. These “whys” help define your purpose and will help provide an extra dose of motivation on those “off days” or when you feel like throwing in the towel.

Reflections + Lessons Learned From 201
Rad Maverix

A few weeks ago I asked what you, my blog readers + real life besties, wanted to see on the Rad Maverix Blog in 2017. Quite a few responses included wanting to see more real-life / personal blog (+vlogs! are you subscribed to my YouTube channel?) posts. Someone even went as far as saying, “I keep coming back because you're transparent.” Which brings me to my next point, 2016 was f*ing hard (sorry, mom).

I’m not going to “front” or act like last year was the best year of my entire life because it truly had its hurdles but it also had its triumphs. I’m coining 2016 as the year of growth. I grew A LOT last year. In more ways than I can even measure but let’s review a few key points; you know, for shits and giggles.


REFLECTIONS on 2016


I was vulnerable. A characteristic I have rarely exhibited in my short 26 years on this beautiful earth. I explored a soul-searching journey that I wish I had started years ago. I have to laugh a bit at that last statement because I truly believe that our entire life is actually a soul-searching journey in itself, some just become aware before others.

I forgave. I forgave those who were sorry and those who weren’t. I mended friendships that had previously fizzled and I also let go of those people who no longer added value to my life. After deciding to forgive, the weight of holding a grudge was immediately lifted off of my shoulders and I was able to live a freer life. I created a sisterhood // the #radmaverixlifestyle. This is one of my proudest takeaways from 2016. The Rad Maverix Lifestyle was created in hopes to spread a bit of positivity and a whole lot of sass and confidence. This sisterhood is all about being authentic + real, with ourselves and others. It’s about trying your hardest and challenging yourself to be the best version of you; no matter where you are in your life's journey. This community is about giving back and paying it forward when you have the opportunity. It’s about supporting and lifting up those around you. I am seriously so proud to know every single woman that has joined this sisterhood...I like to call it...the raddest community on earth.

I took risks. This is a double whammy. I took risks in both my personal and business life.

Biz Risks – I took a H-U-G-E risk and started offering coaching programs last year. I was scared shitless because my ego tried making me think that I had nothing special to offer (SPOILER ALERT: WE ARE ALL GODDESSES AND WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER). A short year later and I’m at a point where I can’t accept all of the clients that I would like to because I’ve *finally* learned to maintain a sacred balance between the hustle life and my social life. This is a feat in and of itself and I find that my work/life balance is refined more beautifully every single day. #progressoverperfection

Another big biz risk I took was creating the 30 Day Finding Balance + Happiness Lifestyle Challenge. I wasn’t sure if this challenge would be a success or not but I poured my heart and soul into this project. Yes, it was a bit scary not knowing how well it’d go over but holy shit you guys. This challenge is CHANGING LIVES. You can find more on the next challenge, starting Feb 1, here.

Personal Risks – I took risks in my personal life when I got super FREAKING raw with my “friends” of the inter-webs (blog, insta, fb, etc). It’s easy to put on a front to your “followers” on Instagram and allow them to believe you're living a picture perfect life. But how does that help others? How does it add value to their lives? How does it inspire others to live life on their own terms? How does it encourage others to know that it’s okay to have those “off days” or to feel sad; as long as you get right back up and be better, do better.

I also allowed people back into my life who had previously “wronged” me in one way or another. This was a big hurdle AND triumph for me. Sometimes I come off as naive because I am so trustworthy of others. I was raised to treat others as I would like to be treated but please don't get it twisted (cue Beyonce's "Flawless"), I see very clearly who is rooting for me. I see who is cheering me on and wishing me the best and these people will ALWAYS be at the top of my priority list. Unfortunately, at some point in your life you have to learn that not everyone has the same intentions as you or on the same team as you. Not everyone wants the best for YOU, especially if it's inconvenient for them. (PRO TIP: these type of people have GOT TO GO.)

 

"Givers have to learn to set limits because takers don't have any."

 

I realized it's okay to not fit inside society's box. Because who wants to be kept inside of a stuffy ole box anyways? A lot of the things I do are considered out of the ordinary to others. From my daily routines / rituals to running my business to the way I can fearlessly and easily forgive others and move forward with life. ALWAYS DO YOU.

 

I defined a style that is ALL MINE + ALL ME. I am not defined by the clothes or brands I wear. I cannot be defined as western/country + city slicker mix. Not even my past can define who I am today.

I am defined by my heart and the way I treat others. I am defined by the way I help those who are helpless and the way I try my hardest to give back. And finally, I am defined by the way I try to leave this world in a little bit better condition than the way I found it. I am perfectly imperfectly me.

Why I Love to Unplug + How You can Too
WHY I LOVE TO UNPLUG + HOW YOU CAN TOO

 

A couple years ago I learned that turning and keeping my phone on silent / vibrate significantly improved my life. No, really, hear me out! It all started one day when I was googling “How to reduce stress”. This little gem popped up:

 

“Turn your mobile device ringtone to the lowest volume setting or vibrate to help reduce stress + anxiety.”

 

Really? That’s it? I can get on-board with that RIGHT MEOW.

 

WHY I LOVE TO UNPLUG + HOW YOU CAN TOO

The Pros:

  • You don’t have to worry about being that person at the movie theater who forgot to turn their phone off
  • You’re not constantly living around the sounds + obnoxious ringtones chiming from your purse or back pocket (This is what did it for me!)
  • You feel freakin' free from the world

 

The Cons:

  • The sound of others' phones relentlessly sounding off is sometimes unbearable ;)

 

My VERY favorite part is that I can basically be reached when I want to be reached. Essentially, it's my way to "unplug" from the world on the daily. I love how I’m not living around my phone or the convenience (...or nuisance? you decide.) of being reached that our mobile devices give us and others.

 

Here are some other tricks to unplug + live in the NOW

Ditch scrolling Facebook / Insta while walking.

Take a look around and enjoy your view(s) of nature. Try to spot something that you’ve never noticed before!

 

Get a real life old school alarm clock. (Warning: THIS IS A GAME-CHANGER.)

While using your smartphone as your morning alarm clock is super handy + convenient…it also makes it super handy + convenient to lay in bed a peruse social media for 30 minutes before getting up for the day. THINK ABOUT ALL OF THE TIME YOU’LL ADD TO YOUR DAY! Use this time to do something good for yourself.

 

No phones at the dinner table.

We always try our hardest to enjoy the meal + company at dinner time. Who knows, you might learn something new about your significant other or kids when your phone isn’t in your face!

Do something physical, like take a hike, with your friends. Go for a walk, take a yoga class together, get outside, just go! ... When you're socializing and being physical, you're less likely to multi-task with social media or be on your phone. Enjoy the HERE + NOW.

I prefer not to get a notification every single time someone "likes" a post or "mentions" me in a post on Facebook / Insta. It actually stresses me out a little. Checking social media on my own time + terms allows me to take control of my time spent on Social Media and not feeling like I constantly need to be checking out what's going on.

Why I Thrive On Monday Mornings

I am checking in, in hopes to start your week on the right foot, the right side of the bed and on the right side of the fence (you know…where the grass is always greener).

A bit of a confession:

I used to hate Monday mornings. Not only because it was back to the grind but because it meant no mimosas for breakfast. I would actually start feeling sad once 4pm Sunday evening hit because the anxiety of another work week would settle in.

Not anymore, homegirl.

Change your attitude and change your world.

 

Why I Thrive On Monday Mornings

The 101 on Mindset: your thoughts create your reality. How many times have you heard me say this?! I literally can’t express this enough!

 

But it’s totally up to YOU. You are 100% responsible for the thoughts that roam through your pretty little head.

 

If you think Monday mornings suck, then your Monday morning WILL be super sucky. If you start looking forward to Mondays and view them as an opportunity to start a fresh + clean slate then you’re going to have a super sasstastic (+ probably REALLY productive) Monday.

I’ve grown to love my Monday morning fresh starts. Obviously, EVERY single Monday is not always smiles + cheerios but for the most part, Monday mornings are my jam.

Why I thrive on Monday Mornings:

  1. Routine, ritual, procedure, habits – whatever you wanna call it. I LIVE for my routines + morning / evening rituals that are often shoved to the side on the weekends. These rituals are 100% about me and for me. They keep me sane, relaxed + happy.
  2. Start FRESH – the idea of wiping my slate "clean", saying goodbye to yesterday and going for my goals gets me stupidly excited. By the way, we're talking about the really really really BIG goals.
  3. Let’s get physical – “never miss a Monday”; I always do my best to get some kind of heart-pumping workout in on Mondays. This sets the tone for my entire week—so why not start it on the right track?

Finding Balance + Happiness

I'm shedding some light on a popular, yet sometimes dreary, topic.

 

Exercise. (dun dun dunnn)

Last night I went for a run and I enjoyed the heck out of it.

 

Don't roll your eyes quite yet.

I’m not really sure what got into me; I was sitting *contently* in my game room watching Lifetime movies and working from my laptop when suddenly I got the urge to get outside. (I’m naturally outdoorsy in that I enjoy being in the wilderness / hiking + on the lake but not your typical endorphin-crazed-natural athlete, shocking, I know.) So I went out and ran/jogged a short 5K. As a lot of you know, we live in the middle of nowhere and the trail / road I normally take can be a bit challenging. This has caused me to fall in and out of love with running because it pushes me to my limits but also makes me feel like a complete badass when I’m done.

I’m running along and listening to an audio-book when the clouds parted and the angels sang on high—it struck me. I figured out why I was thoroughly enjoying the run. I was having fun and enjoying it because it wasn’t a part of a fitness routine or because I felt like I had to lose weight or gain something from it. I was doing it because I truly wanted to.

I was digging the run - even when I was running uphill and nearly out of breath. 

 

Sometimes working out, whether in the gym or at home feels like a chore or inconvenience because your main objective is to gain something from it (burn calories, lose weight, etc). And then after a week or 3 of working out on a regular basis and you suddenly don't see any improvements on the scale or the way your clothes are fitting you automagically feel like it's a waste of time or daunting task. 

But what if you changed your mindset? What if you started playing around with a variety of physical activities that ACTUALLY spark your soul and make you happy? 

Finding Balance + Happiness with Exercise

 

Exercise should be to adults as recess is to school children. Have fun with it!

I’m challenging you to find one type of physical activity that doesn’t make you cringe and actually makes you happy on the inside. Please hear me when I say, THIS IS NOT ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT, (although a likely side effect) this is about satisfying your inner Goddess by creating a healthy + happy lifestyle!

Take Control of the Week So the Week doesn't Control You

It’s no new news here, at the Rad Maverix Headquarters that I am a serious sucker for pretty to-do lists, chic agendas and the idea of being totally organized. I define my life as “organized chaos”. What about you?

I have to refrain (big time) when it comes to scouring the Target dollar spots…but really, can you ever have too many organizational tools? The answer is yes.

But—I need ALL THE THINGS.

  • Stickies
  • Cutesy Pens
  • Page flags in all the colors
  • File folders
  • Notepads -- how many is too many? …asking for a friend.

Speaking of organizational tools, I just purchased a new agenda. Not because my old one had come to an end but because I was in the mood for something new and refreshing.

As a matter of fact, I’m not sure that I have ever finished an agenda from day 1 to day 365. Like is that a thing? Or does every else also purchase a new planner/agenda halfway through the year for a sense of revitalization or because they have outgrown their current agenda?

My agenda has always helped hold my life together; literally + figuratively. And it definitely puts the fun in functional. Why? Because staying organized sooths the soul.

Take control of the week

I love Sundays. Who’s with me? Every Sunday I like to sit down and write out how I’d like my week to unfold. That’s right; I’ve learned to take control over my week so the week doesn’t control me. I suggest taking a few minutes each week to go over plans for the week ahead. Catching up with grandparents? Need to order flowers or a gift for a friend? Attending a daily yoga class—write it down + schedule it in! Scheduling exercise or other mindful activities helps you stay accountable and on task. Also, take this time to look at the previous week and transfer any errands that didn’t get crossed off last week’s list! 

Take Control of The Week

Morning Planning Sesh

WARNING: this will relieve stress.

The first thing I do every single morning (after a cup or 3 of joe) is take 10 minutes to write my tasks + ideas for the day.  I take this time to write down my daily affirmation and start my day on the right track. If I happen to think of other tasks that need to be done but not necessarily that day, I simply write it on the day I would prefer to complete it on. 

*RAD GIRL'S TIP: I highly suggest journaling, especially if you’re having a hard time falling asleep at night because you have too many thoughts running rampant. Grab a small journal (these just hit the shop and are so cute!) and write down your thoughts and tasks for the following day, this eases your mind and allows for a more restful night.

Take a Glance at the Entire Month

I’ve never been a huge fan of the monthly glance pages in planners. Was it the commitment I felt I was making by writing something down on the 24th when it was only the 3rd of the month? I’m not sure, but I have started to gradually bring the monthly view into action. I use this section to jot down ALL THE THINGS that likely won’t change. Whose birthday are you celebrating this month? What about a special anniversary? Perhaps even a dentist appointment or bill(s) due on a specific date! One thing I really love about the Ban.do agenda is the highlighted dates on the month view showing the special holiday / celebration!

Be simple

Keep that shit all in one place. You’ll thank me later when you can find ALL OF THE THINGS in one single place. Remember that journal I was talking about above? Try to find a thin / flat journal that fits easily inside of your agenda! Let them be besties. They need each other, trust me on this.
